Plays in Elevators?!

Looking for a unique theatre experience? This year at FemFest audiences can catch two plays in an elevator! We are excited to host Theatre Yes to present two plays from the National Elevator Project. Director Melissa Thingelstad will be in town with a creative team to fit the elevator we have arranged at the University of Winnipeg’s Manitoba Hall. A local cast will perform in these pieces that have toured across Canada. Read Melissa’s thoughts on this unique form of theatre in our latest blog. Or read on for specifics on the two plays.

A whimsical drama in which two women meet in an elevator at 3AM. It is the witching hour, a time when anything can happen. We discover that they are not strangers but two versions of the same woman living entirely different but parallellives.

The audience finds themselves in the middle of a spontaneous dance party that transforms the elevator into moving dance club complete with lights and sound. The party spills out onto the top floor of the building and ends with safe participatory encounter between the actors and audience, which affirms the beauty to be found in even the briefest of moment of human connections.
