Sarasvàti Productions is seeking monologues or solo performance pieces for their annual cabaret to celebrate International Women’s Week (March 3-9, 2019). They must be created by Canadian artists and performed by a women or someone who is female-identifying. We use an inclusive definition of “woman” and “female” and we welcome pieces written about all who fit under either of these categories/identifiers. This year we are seeking work that tackles what the writer feels is a crucial issue of our time. In particular, we are interested in works that use humour, wit and unique approaches rather than traditional narrative. It can be written work that we would produce or artists in Winnipeg may submit work that they would like to perform. Any style is acceptable as long as the piece is under ten minutes in length and fits the above criteria. Royalties will be paid for use of materials and all performers are paid fees based on number of presentations.
-a letter detailing the piece’s production history, including whether it is from a larger work or a stand-alone piece
-a copy of the script or description of a non-text based work (feel free to also submit a video if that is a better way to capture the content)
-a two-line synopsis of the piece, presenting the context and character
-a short bio (maximum 100 words)
Deadline is August 31, 2018 at midnight CST.
Sarasvàti Productions is also committed to equity and actively encourages applications from Indigenous people, persons with disabilities and visible minorities.
