Sarasvàti Productions is accepting submissions from women and non-binary artists aged eighteen and older for a brand-new mentorship initiative. We are seeking emerging theatre artists to participate in a months-long intensive to create a brand-new production to be showcased at our annual theatre festival, FemFest, in September 2019. The project will be centred on the theme of this year’s festival, All the World’s A Stage, with the chance to present the work to 450 theatre patrons.
Artists interested in the program may come from any background, education, or ability level provided they meet the criteria for an “emerging artist”: being in an early stage of their career while demonstrating a strong aptitude for working in theatre. Older artists looking to transition from another career path are welcome to apply.
About The Launchpad Project:
We’re looking for emerging artists from a variety of disciplines: directors, performers, designers, dancers, technical and production crew, playwrights, etc. Participants will be selected based on creating a diverse and well-rounded creative team that can work with and learn from each other over the course of this process.
Selected participants will then take part in a workshop intensive over two weekends to ensure everyone on the team has a working vocabulary of the same theatre techniques, including vocal skills, improvisation, movement work, physical theatre, devised theatre, and scene-creation. Professionals from Winnipeg’s theatre community will be on board to mentor and advise participants throughout the creative process. Honorariums and transportation subsidies will also be available.
Rehearsals and weekly workshops will be arranged according to participants’ schedules with a focus on consistency and full attendance. Please ensure you are able to commit to the full length of the project when submitting, including the workshop intensive in June, regular weekly rehearsals from June to August, and the rehearsal process in early September leading up to the festival (FemFest runs September 14-21, 2019). Additional mentorship options may be available after the September showcase to assist on Sarasvàti Productions’ upcoming 2019/2020 season.
