Land Acknowledgement

Land Acknowledgement

We wish to acknowledge that Sarasvàti Productions exists in Treaty 1 territory, the land of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, Dene, and the homeland of the Métis Nation.

We respect the Treaties that were made here and honour the original caretakers of the lands upon which we create. We acknowledge the colonial violence and harm perpetuated in the past and recognize its ongoing continuation into the present. We dedicate ourselves to healing our relationship with the stewards of this land and moving forward in the spirit of reconciliation.

There is no right or wrong way to honour and give thanks to the land, and Sarasvàti Productions believes that land acknowledgements are a meaningful practice and an important reminder of the responsibilities all settlers have to acknowledge the legacy of colonialism, work towards ending these cycles of colonial violence, and committing to move forward in collaborative, healthy new ways.

Land acknowledgements as detailed in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission are important, but only a first step towards reconciliation.
