We are excited to be launching the inaugural So You Think You Can Act event this season. So You Think You Can Act is a fun fundraiser supporting the transformative theatre work of Sarasvàti Productions. The evening will feature celebrities, famous for things other than theatre, testing out their acting chops in front of a panel of judges and an audience. The audience will choose the winner of the inaugural trophy.

This year’s theme is Love Gone Wrong in honour of the post-Valentine’s Day date. Audiences will be treated to scenes about bad break-ups, unrequited love and failed wooing.

All the scenes will be directed by Sarasvàti favourite Cairn Moore! We are excited to announce the local actors paired with our celebrities and the very exciting scenes they will perform:

    Life Skills by David King
Performed by Al Simmons (entertainer/musician) and Nan Fewchuk

I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change by Joe DiPietro
Performed by Tracy Koga (Shaw TV) and Tyhr Trubiak

Here on the Flight Path by Norm Foster
Performed by Laurie Mustard (Winnipeg Sun) and Lois Brothers

Performed by Sylvia Kuzyk (formerly of CTV) and Toni Reimer

How it Works by Daniel MacIvor

Mom, Dad, I’m Living With a White Girl by Marty Chan
Performed by John Lu (TSN) and Alissa Watson

Big Daddy Tazz promises to keep the evening fun as emcee and representatives from the theatre and improvisation community will be sitting at the judges’ table. Kayla Gordon (Winnipeg Studio Theatre), Robert Metcalfe (Prairie Theatre Exchange) and Lee White (CRUMBS Improv) will be taking on the roles of the typical reality competition judges. The judges’ commentary will range from the ludicrous to the absurd, but it will be the audience who crowns the winner.

There will also be thousands of dollars worth of raffle prizes donated by local businesses (licence # MGCC-5542-RF). Check out the prize list to date – Raffle Prizes. Plus a reception afterwards with wine from AD Beverages Ltd and cheese from Bothwell Cheese!
