    Women in Fish

    Eileen Lorenz, on her 18th birthday, was set afloat, as one by one, four men, including her husband and brother surrendered to the ocean, hours in the eye of the storm, she was plucked from the ocean, one year older and eight months pregnant.

    Women in Fish tells this story inside the bigger survival story of the world fishing Industry.

    This multi-media performance reveals women’s contributions to what was once a top industry and a way of life for many aboriginal people.

    Shortlisted for a Jack Webster Award for Best Documentary.

    While in Winnipeg the Women in Fish team will also be conducting community outreach prior to the performance. Please join us for:

    • Gathering for community women to share stories about their connection to land-based industries. If you have stories about farming, mining, forestry or fishing in Manitoba please join us on Wednesday, September 12th at 7pm at the Asper Centre for Theatre and Film.
    • Gathering for aboriginal women to share stories about their loss of connection to the land will take place on Thursdays, September 13th at 7pm at Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre (Win Gardner Place, 363 McGregor Street).
    • A special free showing of the documentary film and a discussion with facilitator Rosemary Georgeson will take place at the Indian and Metis Friendship Centre (45 Robinson Street) on September 16th at 12:30pm.
