FemFest Bake-Off Call for Submissions

For the 10th anniversary of FemFest, we are trying a new initiative inspired by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Paula Vogel. If you are a female playwright who will be in Winnipeg for the first two weeks of September this is a great chance to give yourself a deadline to write a new play and have it publicly read.

Summer Jobs for Students

We are now accepting applications for our two summer student positions – Production Assistant and Marketing & Community Outreach Assistant. These are great opportunities for those with an interest in the arts to get hands on experience. Application deadline is April 30th and we hope to start the positions on May 14th.

The world premiere of EDEN by Hope McIntyre is less than two weeks away! We are so excited to share this momentous production. It’s a play but so much more than that, with video, music and an epic story. Do you have your tickets yet? The show runs April 27-May 13, Wednesday through Sunday. EDEN Fuelled!

Thank you to all of our supporters who donated generously to our RocketHub campaign for EDEN! We were able to exceed our goal of $4,000 thanks to multiple project fuellers. It was our first time trying out crowdsource funding and we were pleased with the result. If you have any feedback we’d love to hear it!

Although the RocketHub campaign is now closed, we continue to do on-going fundraising. If you missed the chance to donate through RocketHub but want to support the world premiere of EDEN or our season of works you can donate with credit card through Canada Helps or mail a cheque to: Sarasvati Productions 242 Cathedral Ave Winnipeg, MB R2W 0X3. Charitable tax receipts are issued for all donations over $10.

Matching Funds for Sponsorships

We were pleased to be admitted into the artsVest program this year, supported by Business for the Arts and the Winnipeg Arts Council. We are in the last push to line-up sponsors under this program, which provides matching funds. If you run a business, or know a business that would be a good fit with us, we’d love to hear from you. Businesses could sponsor our upcoming world premiere of EDEN, the 10th anniversary of FemFest in September 2012 or our planned high school tour in the fall. Monologue Line-Up Announced!

On March 9 & 10, this year’s International Women’s Week Cabaret of Monologues will highlight the stories of women from the Winnipeg region. We are excited to announce the pieces, all by local playwrights, that will be performed by our local cast of fabulous actors. With such a wide array of topics there will truly be something for everyone, whether you are interested to see how Nellie McClung behaves at a Jets game or intrigued about what might run through the mind of a waitress at the Sal’s on the bridge.

EDEN Team Announced

We are excited to announce the artistic team for the world premiere of EDEN by Artistic Director Hope McIntyre, which runs from April 27 to May 13, 2012 at the University of Winnipeg Asper Centre for Theatre of Film (400 Colony Street).

Some of our audiences may recall earlier readings and workshops of the play as it is has been in development over several years. Rick Chafe, whose play Secret Mask was recently staged at Prairie Theatre Exchange to rave reviews has been working as dramaturg over the last few months and we are excited by the play’s progress. We know it will be a must-see event!

At the helm for the world premiere production will be local favourite Sharon Bajer. We are extremely pleased to have Sharon on board as director. She just returned from two seasons at the Stratford Festival in the Michael Langham Workshop for Classical Direction.

Due to the fact that the story is told through three generations, the cast includes a mix of established actors well-known on Winnipeg stages and new faces. The show features: Kevin Anderson, Andrea Del Campo, Kevin Gabel, Ti Hallas, Marsha Knight, Tracy Penner, Steven Ratzlaff and Tom Soares.

The show is a challenging piece with a large cast, use of video and dystopian setting. Our amazing designers include:
